New Toogaloo District

Welcome to the Itse Dugalu or New Toogaloo home page. We are a branch of the Northern Cherokee Nation of the Old Louisiana Territory under Principal Chief Beverly Baker, alongside SEMO, Kansas (Awiakta), St. Louis, Oklahoma and other districts. We are emphasizing our work here on Cherokee language preservation, Cherokee culture (including holiday celebration and the telling of old stories to help as a moral compass for our children), the old dancing styles and social support for all of the children of the seven clans.
We recognize the rights and liberties of all of Creator's creations and likewise expect the same courtesy returned to us. We are not a part of any federally recognized Indian Nation but are petitioning as such and are identified by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as the Northern Cherokee Nation of the Old Louisiana Territory. We advise all readers to be aware that there are fraudulent groups claiming the right to be preserved as Indian governments. We are petitioning for rights that we believe we qualify for. If the Bureau of Indian Affairs declares us to not qualify for federal recognition as an Indian tribe we will stand down and the websites will immediately honor that decision but at this time the Bureau of Indian Affairs has not deemed us to be a fraudulent group and so we continue to meet as families throughout the area.
If you have any questions concerning the 3 Federally Recognized Cherokee Nations please visit their sites. The names of these nations are: The Cherokee Nation (in Oklahoma), The United Band of Keetoowah Indians and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Please contact us anytime! We look forward to hearing from you.
